Portland United make the trip to the DH Property Services Stadium this weekend to face an in-form Andover New Street in the Velocity Wessex Premier League.
The reverse fixture will still be fresh in the memory, with Portland securing a 2–0 victory on Valentine’s Day, a result they’ll be eager to replicate on the road. However, this presents a very different test.
Andover New Street come into the game in strong form, having won four of their last five league matches. Victories over Bemerton Heath Harlequins, Laverstock & Ford, Downton, and Sherborne Town highlight a side full of confidence and attacking threat. Their only blemish in that run was a narrow 2–1 defeat away at Hamble Club.
Goals have not been an issue for the hosts either, netting 10 times across those five fixtures, including an impressive 4–3 win at Downton. They’ve also shown resilience, grinding out tight victories, suggesting Portland will need to be at their best both defensively and mentally.
For Portland United, the challenge is clear. Building on their previous win against New Street, they’ll need to combine discipline at the back with a clinical edge going forward. Away fixtures at this stage of the season are never straightforward, and against a side in this kind of form, concentration will be key from the first whistle.
With both sides chasing valuable points, this one has all the ingredients for a competitive and hard-fought encounter.
