Portland United U18s were edged out 2–1 by Lilliput Athletic in a tight contest at the Camp & Satherley Stadium.

The young Blues started brightly, keeping possession well and pressing high up the pitch. Early chances fell to Roy and Rodgers, but the Lilliput keeper was equal to both efforts.

Portland’s pressure paid off in the 35th minute when Rodgers broke down the right and delivered a perfect cross for Roy, who finished calmly to give the hosts a deserved lead.

Lilliput hit back before half-time with a well-taken equaliser, and the visitors grew stronger after the break. Despite several changes from the Portland bench to keep the tempo high, it was Lilliput who found the decisive goal late on, slotting home from close range to make it 2–1.

Portland pushed for an equaliser in the closing minutes, with late chances for Lampard and Moles, but it wasn’t to be.

Plenty of positives for the young Blues, who showed good discipline, teamwork, and determination throughout.
