Pre-Season Friendly – Saturday 5th July 2025
Camp & Satherley Stadium, 3:00 PM Kick-Off

Portland United welcomed Southern League Premier South side Weymouth FC to the Camp & Satherley Stadium on Saturday afternoon in an entertaining pre-season encounter that finished 2–4 in the visitors’ favour.

It was Weymouth who started brightest, with Jake McCarthy opening the scoring early on with a composed finish. Their lead was soon doubled by a trialist, who took full advantage of a defensive lapse to slot past the Portland keeper.

Portland responded well, and recent signing Remus Nixon pulled one back with a well-placed strike from just outside the box, giving the home crowd something to cheer. However, just before the break, Weymouth’s trialist grabbed his second of the game with a clinical finish to restore the two-goal cushion.
Half-Time: Portland United 1–3 Weymouth FC

The second half saw wholesale changes from both managers, as expected in pre-season fixtures. Despite the changes, the tempo remained high, with both sides enjoying spells of attacking play in a more balanced second period.

Portland clawed their way back into the game when Archie Woolford found space on the edge of the area and rifled an unstoppable shot into the top corner to make it 2–3. The home side continued to push for an equaliser, but it was Weymouth who had the final say.

Manager Warren Feeney introduced top scorer Brandon Goodship late on, and the striker made an instant impact, curling a precise effort into the top corner just before the final whistle to seal the win for the Terras.

Despite the result, Portland United manager Kyle Critchell was full of praise for his side’s work rate and commitment across the 90 minutes, highlighting the match as a valuable step in their pre-season preparations.

We wish Weymouth FC all the best in their upcoming Southern League Premier South campaign.
