Pre-Season Friendly | Saturday 19 July 2025 | The Tannery Ground, Somerset

Portland United turned in an impressive second-half performance to ease past Street FC in their penultimate pre-season friendly, running out 5–1 winners on a scorching afternoon at The Tannery Ground.

The hosts started the brighter of the two sides and were rewarded for their early energy with a well-worked goal on 14 minutes. A cleverly executed corner routine straight from the training ground caught Portland flat-footed, allowing Street to take a deserved 1–0 lead.

The Blues, however, grew into the game and found their rhythm just past the half-hour mark. In the 33rd minute, Greg Borthwick pounced on a pinpoint through-ball from midfield to draw the visitors level. Portland continued to press and just four minutes later, Jacob Coombs capitalised on a goalmouth scramble to edge the Blues ahead. Half-time: 1–2.

Portland carried their momentum into the second half and took control of the match. Borthwick added his second of the afternoon on 53 minutes, finishing confidently to give his side a two-goal cushion. Five minutes later, Remus Nixon lit up the match with a stunning volley to make it 4–1.

With Street tiring in the heat, Portland’s superior fitness began to show. In the 75th minute, Patrick Jenkins broke free of the defence, rounded the keeper, and slotted calmly into the net to round off the scoring.

A solid performance from the Blues, who look sharp heading into their final pre-season fixture. We’d like to thank Street FC for their warm hospitality and wish them the very best of luck for their upcoming league campaign, which begins on 28th July.
