Portland United Reserves endured a difficult afternoon on the road as they were beaten 2–0 by Hamworthy Recreation Reserves in the Dorset Premier League at the Meyson Properties Stadium on Saturday.
The Blues knew they would face a challenging test against their hosts, and the afternoon got off to a frustrating start when Hamworthy Recreation took the lead after just 12 minutes, leaving Portland with an early uphill battle.
Portland, captained by Harvey Davis, worked hard to get themselves back into the contest, but the hosts held firm to protect their advantage and went into the half-time interval with a narrow 1–0 lead.
The visitors needed a response after the break and continued to battle in search of a way back into the game. However, with Portland unable to find the breakthrough, Hamworthy Recreation struck again in the 82nd minute to double their advantage and put the result beyond doubt.
Despite their efforts, the Blues were unable to find a reply, and the final whistle confirmed a 2–0 defeat on a tough afternoon away from home.
Portland will now look to put the result behind them, regroup and turn their attention to their next Dorset Premier League fixture as they aim to get back to winning ways.
