In Dorset Senior Trophy action at the Camp & Satherley, the Blues welcomed the Dorset Senior League side Bournemouth Sports FC Reserves. A minute’s silence was observed before the game to honour the memory of clubman Nobby Hall, a true gentleman, loving husband, grandfather, and devoted Blues supporter, who will be deeply missed by all.
The game kicked off with the Blues taking control and dominating possession. The hosts capitalized on their dominance when Ryan McKechnie found himself free at the back of the Sports defence, heading in from a corner to make it 1-0.
HT 1-0
In the second half, Portland was caught out early on the counterattack, allowing Sports to draw level and get back into the tie. The visitors enjoyed their best spell of the game, forcing home stopper Alfie Watts into a fine double save. Sports were then awarded a stonewall penalty, but Watts guessed right and made a remarkable save, diving to his left.
This let-off reinvigorated the home side, who created several good chances but struggled to find the finishing touch their play deserved. That was until full-back Tom Peach played in a square ball across to David Bowmaster, who slammed it home to restore the hosts’ lead.
The final word came from the Blues with Tom Peach making it safe late on with a fine strike of his own.
The Blues held on to their advantage, securing a hard-fought victory in what was a fitting tribute to the late Nobby Hall.
