Portland United Reserves 1-3 Hamworthy Recreation Reserves
Dorset Premier League
Saturday 31st January – Kick-off 2:00pm
The Camp & Satherley Stadium
Portland United Reserves produced a spirited performance but were undone by a late flurry as Hamworthy Recreation Reserves ran out 3–1 winners at the Camp and Satherley Stadium.
The opening exchanges were competitive, with Portland well organised and matching their visitors across the pitch. The deadlock was broken in the 37th minute when Hamworthy’s Maxwell Wilcock found the net, giving the away side a narrow lead at the break.
Portland showed real character after the interval and were rewarded in the 70th minute when Michael Powell confidently converted from the penalty spot to bring the scores level and shift the momentum firmly in the hosts’ favour.
With the game finely balanced heading into the closing stages, Portland pushed for a winner, but it was Hamworthy who struck late. Elliot Birtwistle restored the visitors’ lead in the 88th minute before adding a second in stoppage time, sealing the points despite Portland’s late efforts.
While the final score line was harsh on the home side, there were plenty of positives to take from a committed display, with Portland going toe-to-toe for long periods and showing resilience and togetherness throughout.
