Dorset Premier Football League
Saturday 7th February – Chapel Gate (2:00pm)
Portland United Reserves produced a disciplined and hard‑working performance at Chapel Gate but were edged out 1–0 by Bournemouth Sports in a closely contested league fixture.
The hosts enjoyed the brighter start, moving the ball well and looking to stretch the game early on. Portland, however, remained compact and organised, limiting clear chances and forcing Bournemouth to rely on patient build‑up play. The deadlock was broken midway through the first half when the home side converted one of their few openings to take the lead.
Portland responded positively, growing in confidence as the half progressed and pushing forward with greater purpose. Their attacking play improved after the interval, helped by well‑timed substitutions that added fresh energy and allowed the side to press higher up the pitch.
The visitors enjoyed several promising spells, moving the ball quickly and asking questions of the Bournemouth defence. Despite their efforts and a determined late push, Portland were unable to find the equaliser that their overall performance might have warranted.
The match ultimately hinged on a single first‑half moment, but Portland can take encouragement from their structure, work rate, and the impact of the bench. With performances like this, results will follow.
FT: Bournemouth Sports 1-0 Portland United Reserves
