Hamworthy Recreation U18 Vs Portland United U18
Dorset League U18 League Cup Final
The County Ground, Hamworthy. Sunday 17th May. (6:00pm)
Portland United Under 18s signed off their season in style with a deserved 2–0 victory over Hamworthy Recreation Under 18s in the Dorset Under 18 League Cup Final at The County Ground on Sunday evening, capping off an excellent campaign which saw them finish a credible third in the league.
Portland started brightly and immediately looked composed in possession, with Gregg well protected by a disciplined back line of Wash, Cleeton, McCarthy and Moles. In midfield, Hepburn and Roy worked tirelessly to control the tempo, while Rodgers, Fisher and Ellis supported Davies in attack.
The breakthrough arrived in the first half when McCarthy rose highest to finish confidently from an Ellis assist, giving Portland the lead their performance deserved. Hamworthy tried to respond but Portland remained organised throughout, with Gregg commanding his area well whenever called upon.
Portland continued to threaten after the break and doubled their advantage when Davies finished clinically following good work from Hepburn. The goal settled any nerves and allowed Portland to control the remainder of the contest.
Managerial changes from the bench kept the energy levels high, with Lampard, Burrows, Powell and Wareing all introduced during the second half and each playing their part in seeing the game out professionally.
At the final whistle, Portland celebrated a memorable cup final victory to round off an impressive season for the Under 18s, with the players showing determination, quality and maturity throughout the campaign.
FT: Hamworthy Recreation U18 0 – 2 Portland United U18s
