Cobham Sports 5-0 Portland United Reserves
Cobham Sports & Social Club
Saturday 28th February (2:00pm)

Portland United Reserves endured a difficult afternoon on the road as Cobham Sports produced a clinical display to take all three points in this league encounter.

Portland started with Andy Ennals in goal behind a defensive line of Billy Hathway, Ellis Moles, Tyler Butcher and Josh Gracey. In midfield, Ash Warwick, Sonny Cleeton and Kriss Radivojsa looked to supply captain Haydn Payne, who led the attack alongside Mike Powell and Preston Hepburn.

The opening exchanges were fairly even as Portland tried to settle into their rhythm, but Cobham gradually began to take control of possession and territory. The hosts made the breakthrough after 18 minutes when Joe Wood found the net to put Cobham ahead.

Portland tried to regroup and respond, but Cobham continued to press forward with confidence. Their second goal arrived on 25 minutes before Rafael Santos added a third just a minute later in the 26th minute, leaving Portland with a tough task ahead before the interval.

After the break, Portland looked to inject fresh energy into the side. Matt James replaced captain Haydn Payne, Archie Moores came on for Ash Warwick and Liam Gould entered the fray in place of Sonny Cleeton. The changes brought renewed effort as Portland attempted to stem the tide and gain a foothold in the match.

However, Cobham remained sharp and continued to make the most of their chances. Joe Wood struck again on 63 minutes to extend the hosts’ lead, before Michael Trim added the fifth goal on 66 minutes to complete the scoring.

Andy Ennals was kept busy throughout the afternoon and did his best to keep Cobham at bay, while the Portland defence worked tirelessly against a lively attacking side.

Despite the heavy scoreline, Portland United Reserves continued to battle until the final whistle. It was a tough afternoon, but one the side will look to learn from as they regroup and turn their attention to the next challenge.
