Portland United v Wincanton Town
Saturday 4th April 2026 3:00pm
Camp & Satherley Stadium
Attendance 315
On a blustery Easter weekend afternoon at the Camp & Satherley Stadium, Portland United claimed a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Wincanton Town, with a moment of real quality from Jacob Coombs ultimately settling the contest.
The hosts started brightly despite the difficult, windy conditions, and looked the more assured side in the early stages.
That pressure told in spectacular fashion in the 34th minute. From a corner kick, Josh Williams delivered an effort that was caught by the swirling wind and flew directly into the back of the net, leaving the goalkeeper helpless and giving Portland a deserved 1–0 lead. Shortly after, Archie Woolford was forced off and replaced by Kriss Radivojsa, but the disruption did little to halt Portland’s momentum as they carried their advantage into the interval.
Wincanton responded well after the break and gradually found their footing in the game. Their persistence paid off in the 71st minute when Beckey struck to bring the visitors level at 1–1, setting up a tense and finely balanced final phase.
Both sides looked to turn the game in their favour with changes from the bench, Portland introducing Euan Joyce and later Hayden Scott to inject fresh energy. With the game hanging in the balance, it was Portland who produced the decisive moment.
In the 79th minute, Jacob Coombs let fly with a superb strike that rocketed into the top left corner, a goal of real quality that proved to be the winner and sent the home supporters into celebration.
Wincanton continued to press and made further changes in search of another equaliser, but Portland stood firm through the closing stages to secure all three points.
In testing conditions, it was a resilient and determined performance from Portland United, with a touch of quality when it mattered most ensuring another valuable victory at the Camp & Satherley Stadium.
