Southern League Division One South

Camp & Satherley Stadium

Portland United suffered a disappointing afternoon at Camp & Satherley Stadium as Sporting Club Inkberrow left Dorset with all three points after a ruthless second-half display, inflicting a 4–0 defeat on the Blues.

There was little to separate the sides during the opening half-hour, with Portland defending resolutely and looking to exploit the space in behind the visitors’ defence. Harley Brook provided the early encouragement for the home faithful, using his electric pace to get beyond his marker in the sixth minute, only to see his effort rise narrowly over the crossbar.

Inkberrow registered the first shot on target, but Stainer-Reid dealt comfortably with the attempt. Portland continued to hold their shape, and Brook threatened again on the half-hour mark after Patrick Jenkins sent him through. Forced to take the ball wide, the young forward fired across goal and wide of the far post.

However, the visitors struck a devastating double blow just before the interval. In the 37th minute, Stanley got beyond the goalkeeper and pulled the ball back for Guy, whose effort was blocked on the line by Coombs. Clark was quickest to react to the rebound, firing home to give Inkberrow the lead.

Worse was to follow just a minute later. Brighton delivered an excellent deep cross into the area, where Clark controlled the ball with his first touch before smashing his second into the roof of the net. Two goals in as many minutes left Portland with a mountain to climb at the break.

The Blues returned for the second half needing a response, but Inkberrow continued to look dangerous. Corbridge was cautioned in the 54th minute as the contest became increasingly frustrating for the home side.

Portland made a double substitution on the hour, with Streams and Brook making way for Connor Dunesby-Bent and Woolford, as the hosts searched for a route back into the game. Jenkins was then replaced by Camp in the 66th minute.

But just four minutes later, Inkberrow dealt another damaging blow, extending their advantage to three goals and leaving Portland facing an uphill battle.

To their credit, the Blues continued to push. In the 71st minute, the home side came agonisingly close to reducing the deficit, only for the Inkberrow goalkeeper to produce two superb saves to deny Camp and Woolford in quick succession.

A further change followed in the 77th minute, with Cleaver and Scott introduced as Portland looked to find something from the closing stages. Coombs came close to providing a consolation two minutes later after a promising move, started by Gadsby and continued through Bent, released him into space behind the defence. His effort, however, flew wide of the far post.

Any hopes of a late recovery were extinguished in the 87th minute when substitute Tom Emblem found the net to complete Inkberrow’s 4–0 victory. Gadsby and Delves were subsequently shown yellow cards as Portland struggled to stem the visitors’ momentum.

The final whistle confirmed a heavy home defeat for Portland, who will need to put the result behind them quickly and look to respond in their next fixture. For Inkberrow, two clinical strikes just before half-time laid the foundations for a convincing victory, with their second-half goals ensuring there was no way back for the hosts.
