Saturday 13th September, Camp & Satherley Stadium
Portland United Reserves returned to home action on Saturday afternoon with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Hamworthy United Reserves at the Camp & Satherley Stadium.
Despite rain threatening earlier in the day, conditions cleared to leave a bright and sunny backdrop for the contest, which suited both sides’ positive approach to the game.
The Blues opened the scoring in the 25th minute when Callum Clark found space in the box and finished confidently to give the home side a deserved lead. Portland continued to press throughout the first half, and although Hamworthy created a couple of chances of their own, the Blues went in at the break with a narrow 1–0 advantage.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with Portland looking disciplined at the back while searching for a crucial second goal. That breakthrough came in the 75th minute, when a Hamworthy defensive error led to an own goal, doubling Portland’s lead and putting them firmly in control.
Hamworthy, however, refused to lie down and mounted a late push. Their persistence paid off in the closing stages with a well-taken goal by Lional Demira in 85th minute that reduced the deficit and set up a tense finish. Despite the pressure, Portland kept their composure and saw out the game to secure all three points.
The 2–1 win ensures the Reserves maintain positive momentum and demonstrated the team’s resilience, with a confident opener, a slice of fortune, and a determined defensive display earning them a well-deserved victory.
