Portland United v AFC Stoneham
Wessex League Premier Division
Camp & Satherley Stadium
Saturday 11th April 3:00pm
Portland United return to the Camp and Satherley Stadium this Saturday afternoon for their penultimate Velocity Wessex League Premier Division fixture, with newly crowned champions AFC Stoneham the visitors (3pm kick-off).
The Blues head into the clash knowing a playoff place is virtually secured, boasting a commanding +24 goal difference over 6th-placed Laverstock & Ford. Barring an unlikely swing in results, Portland are set to extend their season beyond the regular campaign.
Standing in their way this weekend, however, is the league’s standout side. AFC Stoneham arrive as champions and FA Vase finalists, underlining their quality and consistency throughout the season.
The reverse fixture back on August 23rd saw Stoneham run out convincing 4–1 winners at Stoneham Lane, something Portland will be keen to put right on home soil.
Stoneham’s recent form only reinforces the size of the challenge. They arrive on the back of five straight victories in all competitions, including impressive league wins away at Baffins Milton Rovers (3–2) and Bemerton Heath Harlequins (3–1), as well as a dominant FA Vase semi-final triumph over Hallen, securing their place at Wembley.
For Portland, this represents the perfect test ahead of the playoffs, a chance to measure themselves against the very best and build momentum at exactly the right time. With home support behind them and little pressure on the outcome, the Blues will be looking to make a statement.
