Dorset Premier Football League
Date: Saturday 1st November 2025
Venue: Park Road Recreation Ground
Result: Blandford United FC 5–0 Portland United FC Reserves
Blandford United produced a dominant display at Park Road Recreation Ground, running out 5–0 winners against a youthful and hardworking Portland United Reserves side. The hosts’ experience and composure in front of goal proved the difference, but the scoreline didn’t fully reflect the spirit and effort shown by the young Blues.
Portland began brightly, pressing high and showing real intent in possession. Their early energy unsettled Blandford, and a couple of half-chances could easily have changed the complexion of the match. However, Blandford’s greater physical presence and finishing quality told as the game wore on.
Elliot Manson’s hat-trick, along with strikes from Jimmy Fry and Steve Smith, gave the home side a comfortable margin, yet Portland’s heads never dropped. The visitors continued to compete for every ball, with defenders throwing themselves into challenges and the midfield working tirelessly to close down space.
Manager and supporters alike will have taken encouragement from the character shown throughout the squad. Several young players gained valuable minutes against seasoned opposition, learning lessons that will serve them well in the weeks ahead.
While the result was harsh, there was plenty to admire in Portland’s attitude and togetherness. On another day, with a bit more luck in front of goal, the scoreline could have looked very different.
Full-Time: Blandford United FC 5–0 Portland United FC Reserves
Portland’s Verdict: A tough afternoon against strong opposition, but plenty of heart, hunger, and promise from a young side that’s clearly developing with every match.
