The future continues to look bright at Portland United U18 after a superb second half display secured a deserved 2–0 victory over Poole Town Wessex Colts U18 in the Dorset U18 League Cup semi final at the Upton Recreation Ground on Sunday afternoon.
With a place in the final at stake, the young Blues produced a disciplined and determined performance against a strong Poole Town side, before Hepburn stole the headlines with two second half goals to book Portland’s place in the showpiece occasion.
Portland started brightly and defended superbly throughout the opening half whilst searching for an opening in a tightly contested encounter.
Both sides created moments during an evenly matched first half, but neither could find the breakthrough before the interval as the game remained finely balanced.
After the restart, Portland began to take greater control and eventually found the goal their performance deserved. Hepburn scored the opener to give the young Blues a crucial advantage.
The goal lifted Portland and they continued to press forward with confidence. Wash, Bobora-David, Ellis and Moles were all introduced from the bench and each made an important contribution as Portland maintained their intensity during the closing stages.
As Poole Town pushed forward searching for an equaliser, Portland struck again to seal the victory. Hepburn once again proved decisive, calmly finishing for his second goal of the afternoon to send the Portland players and supporters into celebration.
Hepburn’s outstanding display earned him the Man of the Match award after a dominant performance at both ends of the pitch.
The final whistle confirmed a memorable cup victory for Portland United U18s, who will now face Hamworthy Recreation U18 in the Dorset U18 League Cup Final at The County Ground on Sunday 17th May with a 6:00pm kick off.
A huge occasion now awaits this talented young Portland side as they look to complete their impressive cup run in style.
