Portland United Reserves endured a difficult afternoon on Saturday as they were beaten 5–1 by Cobham Sports in the Dorset Premier League.

The Blues made the perfect start when new signing Darren Watts marked his Portland debut with a goal after just four minutes to put the visitors 1–0 ahead.

However, Cobham gradually settled into the contest and found an equaliser on the half-hour mark to bring the scores level at 1–1.

The home side then completed the turnaround shortly before half-time, scoring in the 41st minute to take a 2–1 lead into the interval.

Portland needed a strong response after the break, but instead it was Cobham who continued to take control of the game. They extended their advantage five minutes into the second half to make it 3–1.

The Blues found themselves under increasing pressure as Cobham continued to create opportunities, and a fourth goal followed before the hosts added a fifth in the 70th minute to complete the scoring.

Despite the disappointing result, there was a positive to take from the afternoon with Watts finding the net on his first appearance for the Reserves.

The result sees Portland return from Cobham empty-handed and with plenty to work on ahead of their next Dorset Premier League fixture.
