Brockenhurst v Portland United
Tuesday 31st March 2026, 7:45pm
Meadens Skoda Arena
Attendance 144
Portland United produced a disciplined and clinical performance under the lights at the Meadens Skoda Arena, securing a well-earned 2–0 victory away to Brockenhurst in front of a crowd of 144.
The visitors wasted little time in stamping their authority on the contest. After the hosts had seen an early effort sail over the bar, Portland struck in spectacular fashion in the 8th minute. Nixon, already looking lively, produced a moment of real quality, firing home a superb effort that will surely be mentioned when discussing goal of the season contenders.
That early breakthrough settled the Blues, who began to control proceedings with composure. Brockenhurst made an early change in an attempt to stem the tide, but Portland continued to look the more dangerous side, with Woolford testing the home keeper from distance as the pressure built.
The second goal arrived in the 28th minute and it was a move of real quality. Woolford, influential throughout, delivered an excellent cross into the area, where Nixon rose highest to power home a header and double the advantage.
Portland’s momentum was briefly disrupted just before the break when Borthwick was forced off through injury, Camp entering the fray in his place, but the visitors carried their two-goal lead into the interval in control of the contest.
The second half saw a determined response from the hosts, who began to apply sustained pressure as they searched for a route back into the game. Portland, however, stood firm. The defensive unit, well marshalled throughout, dealt with the increasing threat, while Stainer-Reid remained alert when called upon.
As the game entered its final stages, Portland made further changes to manage the contest. Cleaver and Jenkins made way for Scott and Joyce, before Woolford, after an energetic display, was replaced by Morris late on.
Despite Brockenhurst’s late pressure, the visitors maintained their discipline and organisation, seeing out the closing stages with professionalism to secure a deserved clean sheet and all three points.
It was a confident and controlled away performance from Portland United, built on early attacking quality and resolute defending, with Nixon’s brace ultimately proving the difference on the night.
