Portland United Reserves v Sherborne Town
Dorset Premier League
Camp & Satherley Stadium
Saturday 18th April (3:00pm)

Portland United FC secured a crucial 2–1 victory over Sherborne Town FC to ease pressure near the foot of the Dorset Premier League table.

Coming into the match in 16th place and in need of points, Portland suffered an early setback. Just eight minutes in, a clumsy challenge inside the box gifted Sherborne a penalty, which was calmly converted to give the visitors a 1–0 lead.

Portland responded with determination and found their equaliser midway through the first half. A superbly delivered free kick from the returning Liam Gould caused problems in the box, eventually falling to Archie Moors, who made no mistake in slotting home on 25 minutes.

The hosts carried their momentum forward and took the lead just five minutes later. Sonny Cleeton struck from close range, and although the Sherborne goalkeeper made the initial save, he failed to hold on as the ball trickled over the line, giving Portland a 2–1 advantage at the break.

Sherborne came out strongly in the second half and were unlucky not to equalise, with a well-worked move rattling the crossbar. Despite late pressure, Portland held firm to secure all three points.

A vital win for Portland as they look to climb away from the relegation zone.
